Now that Arlen Specter is officially a Democrat, who will be the next member of Congress to switch parties?

I seriously doubt that Maine’s Senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, would switch to the Democrats. Although Maine did elect Angus King, an independent, as Governor twice, and Ross Perot did finish second there over Maine summer resident George H.W. Bush in 1992.

I’ve heard that Kay Bailey Hutchison, Republican Senator from Texas, is running for Governor next year, in the primary agianst incumbent Rick “Governor Goodhair” Perry. She’s a lot smarter than he is, but then, Governors of Texas aren’t known for being especially bright. (Except for Ann Richards.) If the Texas GOP sticks by Perry, could Hutchison leave the GOP and run as an independent?

Or will the next switcher be somebody else?
“Praise Me”: Name one. Which, after all, is the point of the question. If you think there’s a Democrat out there who would switch to the Republicans, tell me who it would be. But don’t bet on it.

  1. Hmm. I have no idea. I didn’t even predict the Specter switch though its a great move and he’s from my state.

  2. if they want a piece of the corrupt pie then i’m sure most will follow suit.

  3. Expect Rhode Island’s Lincoln Chaffee to return as an “Independent” who also frequently votes with the democrats.

  4. Many would say McCain. . . . but I don`t see that happening after his most recent comment on Arlen. . .

  5. I don’t know
I just had to say that you are absolutely right about Ann Richards.

[& totally wrong about the rest]
    and that
Liberals couldn’t possibly destroy the Republican Party.
But we don’t need to try.
It is being destroyed from within.

    1. Karl Rove and his “turn political discourse into an open sewer” tactics have turned off a lot of people.
    2. The religious fanatics still have too much power.
    3. The bigots haven’t been encouraged to HIT THE ROAD

    THEREFORE:

If these problems are not fixed, the Republican Party will DIE.
    WHY?
THERE WILL BE A MASS EXODUS OF MODERATES TO THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY
[& MAYBE SOME TO THE DEMOCRATS].
AND THE REMAINDER OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL DROWN IN ITS OWN BILE.

  6. I just hope Americans wise-up and vote these clowns out of office. They lie, cheat and steal if it gets them the power they want.

The whole lot of them should be dismissed and the country should start over!!!

  7. It is of my opinion that as the GOP runs out of tactics for stalling the economic recovery and fail in making Obama look bad, more and more of them will start jumping ship. . .

  8. You assume that anyone who changes parties would be switching from the Republican to Democratic or Independent. There are some middle of the road Democrats who are not happy with Obama and could just as easily switch parties.

  9. According to the polls in Texas, Hutchison has a substantial lead over Governor “Goodhair” (nickname is a credit to the late, great Molly Ivins). Hutchison is more moderate on some social issues (stem cell research and abortion rights) than her colleagues in the Senate, but she’s still in the mainstream of Republican politics. It looks doubtful that another member of the GOP would change parties, but it would depend on their state’s regional status in regard to the 2010 election. Specter was keenly aware that he would not be reelected as a Pennsylvania Republican.

  10. Snowe and Collins have already switched. They just don’t have the spine to admit it. They are Dummycrats in Republican clothing.

  11. Who will Specter eat lunch with now? I’m glad he’s leaving! He should take Collins and Snowe and McCain with him! The RINOs need to go home. o_O

  12. One would hope that even some of the republicans ran for office because they wanted to serve the America andthe people. I can see why they would not want remain in the party (R) who’s only agenda is to block any and all progress the Dem. President is making . May be some are not willing to let America fail just to Obama fail ” Prais me ” is none too bright, and as for “Ant Agonis” He may be surprised to learn that after the 2000 election John McCain was SO Disgusted with the Republican party that he had a sit down meeting with (D)Senator John Kerry to discuss switching over to the Dem. party. At that time McCain was leading GW Bush in the primaries until Scooter Libby flattened the tires on McCain’s straight talk express with the NASTY rumor that McCain’s newly adopted baby girl was really the product of McCain’s adulterous affair with a 15 year old black girl.
Yet again, McCain didn’t seem to have a problem with using Scooter make up lies about Obama.
