“Washington (CNN) — Two prominent Republicans vowed Wednesday to vote against the $1.1 trillion spending bill, citing concerns over pork-laden pet projects, although millions of dollars of earmarks in the bill were requested by the two senators.
“Sen. John Cornyn of Texas has requested 54 earmarks worth more than $170 million and Sen. John Thune of South Dakota has made 43 requests totaling more than $165 million, according to an analysis by Taxpayers Against Earmarks, Taxpayers for Common Sense and WashingtonWatch.com, which collected data from disclosures on Congressional websites.”
So these guys can say they voted against the bill, and when it still passes, they can tell their constituents “hey, I got the money for you.”
Yen Man — yes, I am.
Primo — once again you miss the point.
U mad bro?
Edit: Yen Man was my father’s name, you can call me ¥ Man.
Those projects were put in there by Sen Inanyoue(D) from Hawaii, Appropiations Chairman. , the republicans did not want them in.
The Republicans wanted those appropiations with their names taken out, the Dems refused.
I love how I get thumbs down for stating the facts.
Sounds like they’re looking out for the constituents. If Democrats did that, they wouldn’t be on their way out en masse. If the Democrats insist on passing this pork laden bill (and it looks like it will pass) should they really not try to get anything for their district out of principal?
Your mad at 2 republicans for adding pork to the bill when the bill is full of pork from majority democrats/ You are a hypocrite
$1. 1T. Somebody ought to stand firm and stop it. I don’t care who.
I can appreciate your perceived spin on this, but both are on record stating that the earmarks were already established in the bill. Once the Nov elections made it clear that this type of behavior was not to be tolerated, they both vowed to vote against the bill. Sometimes it is easier to let things run their course than to go back and change things. They along with many other Democrats are in exactly the same situation, but you won’ t hear that from the liberal talking heads.
Hypocrisy at its best! The sad fact though is that ALL politicians do this regardless of their party affiliation, and the majority of Americans don’t care enough to demand change. Look back at all the interest during the 2008 Presidential election, you would have thought all that energy would have prompted some major change in Washington, yet just a few years later and the American people don’t seem to care, again! That is why politicians go on lying and stealing from all of us.
This is classic of what the Republicans have been doing, they add their pet projects, but appose anyone else who does that.
Your point is well taken, pork is pork regardless of who carves it. As a conservative, it drives me nuts when republicans engage in pork barrel spending, especially when we’re so deep in the hole fiscally. It actually bothers me more when the republicans do it because they’re supposed to know better. I expect the dems to be irresponsible with our money because that’s what they do. But you’re right, it’s the height of hypocrisy when republicans do it.
Old news!! The omnibus bill was pulled today. Somebody told Prince Harry that it might not pass. Obviously, enough light got shown on this pork filled monstrosity that even the Senate majority leader realized the ludicrousness of the situation. However, you are right that when the funding bill comes up again in the new congress, we must watch and insist upon a fiscally responsible piece of legislation. We must insist that all of our elected lawmakers trim the fat from the federal budget.
Republicans are voting against the Omnibus bill. Republicans will also vote for a moratorium on earmarks as soon as the 112th Congress seats. Find me any Republicans that have earmarks that are not voting against the bill.
Any cynicism are limited to the Republican turncoats that have been forced out of office that are voting for it. Collins of Maine is also showing her RINO colors once again. Murkowski is also voting for it, Palin was right about her and probably going, “See! I told you so!”
BTW The Omnibus bill you said was going to pass, didn’t.
Reality does have a liberal bias as it takes an education and a lack of brainwashing to point these things out my friend.
What is happening in the Senate will eventually destroy us from within if not fixed. BOLD HYPOCRISY and with no shame.
RIght wing!
