  8. They are, but they get a lot of handouts for it. In my city, Buffalo, government sources account for more than half of the black income. They would be crazy to vote republican, even if it was good for the country.

  10. This may sound racist, but this is what I was informed of in a government class. Apparently the democratic party appeals to minorities as a whole because they offer more social welfare programs and since minorities are stereotypically less wealthy they benefit more by them.

    As to what Ted said, Lincoln, who headed the movement to free blacks, was a Republican. . . .

  11. It all started with the Civil Rights Act. Prior to that, black people tended to support conservatives.

Do you find it a mere coincidence that the GOP lack african americans in their party? not saying they dont have any. but very few.

  17. Constituents support the party that supports them. Historically Blacks were Republican due to Abe Lincoln being Republican. That changed L. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1964 which made many of the racially biased southern voting laws illegal. With Civil rights legislation sponsored by Democrats that followed, Blacks (generally speaking) switch party affiliation.

They are very fickle voters–they follow anyone who will promise them a free ride–and the dems usually are the party who wants to tax us hard working citizens to death so they can be generous and give it away to those who refuse to be responsible for themselves. . . and unfortunately–the black community thinks somehow they ar entitled to free handouts and have no self-respect about taking from others even when they don’t deserve it.

    PS. The Dems NEVER LED the civil Rights movement–It was led by Republican, Martin Luther King, Jr. . . (see how ignorant dems are). Read the history books if you doubt me.

    They used to follow republicans (1920-1970) until they realized they would have to work and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. .

  22. I don’t vote for party. I have voted for Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents, etc. I’ve never voted for a Democratic Presidential candidate though. And I can’t speak for all blacks so I’m not going to even make a blanket statement as to why they vote that way or not.

    And to Prince, MLK was not a Democrat or Republican. He chose no side. His family has stated this numerous times.
