Which part of U.S. Govt can I write to against raising cigarette taxes?

For my U.S. Government class, I must write a U.S. postal letter to some part of the Government concerning raising cigarette taxes, whether it is the senator, house of representatives, or state (Texas). I am not sure as to which one of these is the correct one to send a letter to and if someone could please help me with a website to find the information on how to send a postal letter to one of these branches? Maybe an address?

Thank you guys so much!

Which is more detrimental to the respective leading presidental candidates…?

(1) Today’s statement by Phil Gramm (former Senator from Texas, Ph.D. in Economics, and economic advisor to John McCain) calling Americans “a nation of whiners” and saying that Americans are in a “mental recession”; or

(2) Today’s statement by Jesse Jackson that Barack Obama is “talking down to black people” and that he wants to cut Obama’s (crude term for testicles) out.

?

Bonus questions: is America a nation of whiners? Is Obama talking down to black people?

Why did Sen. John Cornyn (R) TX say that Rush & Newt are wrong for calling Sotomayor a racist?

You can’t even play the “true conservative” card on a Republican senator from Texas.

Don’t you people get it? The Republican party is not Rush and Newt and Cheney. They’re the ones who are wrong. They are the ones who are going to need to get out of the party. Not McCain or Powell.

Its over for Rush. Rush is wrong.

what group is least represented in the US congress relative to the total population?

this question was on my AP Gov’t test…I couldn’t decide b/w hispanics and blacks. I figured that there are no black senators but there are a lot of representatives in the house like jim clyburn. I think there might be a hispanic senator from texas but idk…i am sure there are some in house. me and my partner for the quiz had a debate over this and he just said african americans and i said hispanics…i am having second thoughts tho >.>

Why the abundance of sexual deviancy in the Republican Party?

I thought dems were supposed to be the sexual deviants while the repubs took the “moral high ground.” So why do you suppose then that there is so much “deviancy” on the right side of the isle? Theres Sen. Vitter (R, LA)who keeps getting caught with prostitutes while presenting himself as the Candidate of Family Values and the Sanctity of Traditional Marriage (ironic, no?). And Sen. Larry Craig (R, ID) busted trying to get busy with an undercover cop in a public toilet – tsk tsk Senator…. And who can forget Rep. Mark Foley (R, FL) who was not only looking for gay sex, but gay underage sex. Yikes! Oh and James Guckert (aka Jeff Gannon) who was a gay prostitute right before he became a White House Press “Reporter.” And have you heard yet that Alberto Gonzales has been accused of covering up a sex scandal involving teenage boys and the guards at the Texas Youth Commission? Oh how the list goes on. Heres a link with many many more if your interested…

espreses – no, but Republicans do, which is why is so ironic (and funny?) that so many of them are gay. But prostitution and pedophelia certainly are – gay or straight). Anyway, thats why I put “deviancy” in “quotes”… Please try to pay attention.
Shelly P – Great resource. Thanks for posting. The hypocrisy knows no bounds.
alberto g – Sorry, I’m pretty sure self loathing, sexually repressed men that try to present themselves as “moral high grounders” while getting a BJ by the prostitute under the desk are not the norm. Politicians and priests have 1 thing in common – sexual repression. Causes problems my friend.
Souldogs – I appreciate a well thought out answer. Thanks for contributing!
TheUber1337 – see the 2 answers above yours. Think man, think!
TheUber1337 – have you been following politics long? Guns God & Gays? Republican DO claim to take the “moral high ground” – ask them. Its all they ever talk about, except when talking about guns. God & gays play into it. ANYWHO, they claim to want to protect marriage, no sex before marriage, they don’t want teenagers to be educated about sex, they call gays “an abomination in the eyes of the lord,” write laws banning porn and prostitution, are always shrieking about “protecting our children” and then turn around and commit acts of adultery (a sin) with a prostitute (illegal), a gay prostitute (illegal and an “abomination”), a gay underage prostitute (I think you get the picture…
nostradamus02012 – Well you’ve just brought this to a whole new level! Thanks, very interesting. I will check it out. Love the little quip at the end re: his dancing. Good stuff! ;)
East Coaster, I like how all of your – I don’t know, what do you want to call it – evidence? – is almost entirely 2 decades or more old. Secondly, 50% is pure allegation. I especially like your #1, thats a pretty broad statement to claim that Kennedy’s testimony alone “won over the jury” – like lack of evidence didn’t have anything to do with it. But you should have posted the link that you cut and pasted from. I can offer more Repub. too if you really want to go all the way back to the 70′s. Oooh, snap! sucker.

We all know George Bush is a complete idiot. Was he that way before he fried his brain on cocaine?

I mean surely he wasn’t born that stupid. I find that hard to believe. It’s incredible how far you can go when your a dead head if you’re daddy is a U. S. Senator. Only a place like Texas would elect a moron for a governor.

Why are there differences in the requirements, terms and powers of state and national senators and reps?

Hi i was wondering this question for an essay and i am stuck on it so if anybody could help me that would be great! Also i have one other question you could answer going to my page ‘What countries has Texas been a state or part of a state of?’ it is on my page so if you could answer that thanks!!!

Now that Arlen Specter is officially a Democrat, who will be the next member of Congress to switch parties?

I seriously doubt that Maine’s Senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, would switch to the Democrats. Although Maine did elect Angus King, an independent, as Governor twice, and Ross Perot did finish second there over Maine summer resident George H.W. Bush in 1992.

I’ve heard that Kay Bailey Hutchison, Republican Senator from Texas, is running for Governor next year, in the primary agianst incumbent Rick “Governor Goodhair” Perry. She’s a lot smarter than he is, but then, Governors of Texas aren’t known for being especially bright. (Except for Ann Richards.) If the Texas GOP sticks by Perry, could Hutchison leave the GOP and run as an independent?

Or will the next switcher be somebody else?
“Praise Me”: Name one. Which, after all, is the point of the question. If you think there’s a Democrat out there who would switch to the Republicans, tell me who it would be. But don’t bet on it.
