Most people have heard something about George W. Bush pulling strings to get into the Texas Air Guard. But the press, while reporting lots of details, has done a poor job of communicating how consistently and shamelessly Bush Jr. sought and received favorable treatment while he avoided Vietnam.
Furthermore, his story has repeatedly changed — he has weaseled like Clinton at his worst and even flat-out lied when explaining what happened.
To put it in perspective, here are 9 ways Bush got favored treatment in the service due to his political connections (he was then son of a Congressman and grandson of a former Senator):
On May 27, 1968, George Bush Jr. was 12 days away from losing his student draft deferment, at a time when 350 Americans a week were dying in combat. The National Guard, seen by many as the most respectable way to avoid Vietnam, had a huge waiting list — a year and a half in Texas, over 100,000 men nationwide….. http://english.pravda.ru/world/americas/79802-2
Why is it so important for Americans to know how many years their presidential candidates were in the military? Is it important for a president to have military background?
Is there no end to the Bush bashing? It’s gotten worst then it was with Clinton.
Just let it go, He’s our President for a couple more years, get over it, please.
Would you want to go to war with him? Would you trust him with one of your planes? Would you trust him as a wingman with your life?
I think he did other pilots a favor.
Besides, politically connected people always get preferential treatment during war. LBJ did, all the congressmen’s sons did. That’s why I still love JFK. He went to war as a PT boat captain, saw combat and even suffered life long injuries trying to save his boat and crew.
